Who Would Have Known

by Midnight Sun   Dec 4, 2006

Years ago we sat at the same table
Without a second glance
I noticed your perfect smile
But knew there wasn't a chance

After we parted that night
Honestly, I didn't think of you again
I saw you with that other girl
And thought at most we'd be distant friends

But soon I moved to your town
And saw you every other night
The more I got to know you
The more I saw you in a different light

We quickly became good friends
I even considered you one of my best
We knew what each other were thinking
Whether we were sad happy or stressed

As I saw you more and more
And soon started to understand
You were in no way just another guy
Instead, I saw a deep, heartfelt man

And as I saw us more and more
I soon started to understand
We were in no way just friends
I'd much rather stay holding your hand

But now as we're here
Stuck between this rock and hard place
Who would have known
That one glance would make my heart race

But now as we're here
Stuck between this rock and hard place
Who would have known
You could leave my heart in a state of grace

Who would have known
As we sat at that table
My dreams would become reality
And that my life would mimic old fables

I think some parts didn't flow right as you read it, but I love how you kind of go back to the beginning in your last stanza by relating back to sitting at the table, and I loved the completing stanza. nice job!
