Only Once

by Iola   Dec 5, 2006

Deep within the soul of you a rhythm plays out loud.
Hearts of stone can shatter like glass without the tiniest sound.
Your loneliness a memoir of life lived in the name of fear.
Forever bearing a deep seated scar, that eventually becomes crystal clear.

Your coat of sadness worn with pride upon a weary soul.
A sword of gel resting on your side, experience has taken its toll.
Eyes just staring into the sky, waiting for love to appear.
Desperate for the chance to try, but continuing your dance with fear.

Your fingertips drenched in tears, appearing wet and old.
The center of your heart bouncing wild, but feeling numb and cold.
A prayer to God in sheer despair, regretting what's forever lost.
To experience love is a once-off gift, a blessing that comes with a cost.
