Love at last

by Jamie   Dec 24, 2006

"Love at last"

I have seen all parts of life.

I have touched death and stroked its long chain.

I have seen heaven or at least felt its saneness.

I have laughed at a butterfly.

If only it wouldn't have ruined me.

I have inflicted pain where angels live.

I have comforted in places I never knew existed.

All of these were for love.

I thought the butterfly was beautiful until it came and overran me.

For the butterfly was not what I thought it to be.

It was the very thing I was told but denied,

Thought I knew it would happen.

The gentle beast will come and overwhelm me

And be mine for keeps and life.

But I was wrong the gentle beast was only in my mind

One day it will be present and not in my mind

Till then I am an old lady

The old lady who has lived life and life lived.

That day I will be forever immortally tame.
