Looking Back

by Christine   Dec 31, 2006

As I look back on the horrid past,

I see why she wanted free at last.

But I still dont understand why she

could not see through the man that he

insisted on pretending to be.

When he was around our family,

a different guy he seemed to be.

But when we were in our enclosed home,

that untrue manner he disowned.

But why did WE see that side he shown?

He put her through things that made her cry.

It seemed like he wanted her to die.

As I witnessed the unreal nightmare,

I thought to myself this isnt fair.

She still could not see he did not care.

You know how people say love can blind?

She was the vitcim he showed no mind.

Even though he said he loved her,

she was betrayed by her lover.

Would you believe SHE is my mother?

The only sad thing about this poem is that it is true. People dont truly understand how painful sexual, emotional, and physical abuse can be until they have been through it. If you are one of those people that has not witnessed this, consider yourself to be very lucky! When something doesnt go your way, or that one person who youve been crushing on forever, doesnt ask you out, dont freak out. Dont take things for granted and be thankful that you still have your self pride and self respect, even if everything else is going wrong at the moment... Life will go on.
