Where I'm From

by Lily   Jan 9, 2007

Where I'm From

I am from clay bedded beaches,
From the sun warmed grains of sand
Squishing between my toes.
I am from the old red pontoon boat and
The murky brown water
I am from times when my Barbie Doll dream house, with
Pink roof and working elevator, was my
Most
Prized
Possession

I am from the dead end street of Shore Drive where
I first rode my purple bike with the
Bleach white basket and rainbows of ribbon
Down the
Lane
With
No
Lines.
I'm from when being pale was just fine and
Tanning until you were a
Sparkling
Golden
Brown was unnecessary.

I'm from "Babydolls", and "Pappys"
"Memes" and "Lily Belles"
From hunting colorful Easter eggs
Filled with sweats and,
From tractor rides on the dirt trails
In the woods behind my
House
I am from fish-fry Fridays and corn-on-the-cob
Roasted to a
Sweet
Perfection

I am from playground equipment and
Chasing boys through the peat gravel
With my BFF at recess
And from the 3-year-old little red monster named Elmo
And the purple dinosaur from my imagination
On three times a day
Morning, Noon, and Night
From birthday parties with clowns and
Blowing out candles on magical cakes

Iâ??m from the softball field, from the excitement
Of the fly that landed perfect in my glove
I am from the old things, the
Hand-
Me-
Downs, through
Generations and,the black and white photos of people past
I am from theses times, these memories of myself and others
That will live in my heart forever.
