The time passes by and you are not around
I keep a sharp ear open but I cannot hear a sound
Your footsteps are forgotten, your voice has gone astray

It doesnt seem real that your not here anymore
I always think I hear your footsteps coming through the door.

Memories of you waking me up everyday
Tend to start over and being to replay
The smile that was shone on your graceful face
Will always have a special spot in a familiar place

Missing you is the hardest part to every hopeful daughter
Who wants to hear the safest voice coming from her mother
But that is not going to happen and it will not ever be the same
Because you are never coming, back and that thought will not go away.

You left to go to a party that I begged you not to go
But you told me you would wake me up as soon as you came home
You told me it was all right you were going to be ok
But it did not happen for me it did not turn out that way

Why was it that when you left that you had to say good night
You had to keep on going you had to run the light
You had to have that last drink that pushed you over the edge
You had to have that speed going faster you screamed it in your head

You made it your last choice to get home to me
You made it that choice but it’s your fault you didn’t see
That you were driving drunk and it hurt not only you
But I’m guessing you were to drunk to see that you looked straight through

It’s my fault I guess if I didn’t beg you not to stay
I had to have you home I wanted to be ok
You had to see me there I wouldn’t forgive you if you didn’t
I guess if only I had called you later maybe just a minute

Maybe you'd be here tucking me in at night
Maybe you would be here if I hadn’t put up a fight
Maybe you would have made it and you could have stop to see
That drinking while driving not only hurts you but it also hurts me
