Twisted Perception

by Rachel RTVW   Jan 16, 2007

Twisted perceptions of people, thoughts from weak at mind,
Think and speak prejudice, They're not color blind
Who are they to judge someone, based on outer looks?
Accomplished people come in all colors, as do all the crooks!

Color doesn't make people bad, good, cold or kind at heart.
Observing someone's character to form an opinion, sounds like where to start.
Does skin help you succeed or fail on any written test?
Does it ever stop someone from giving it their best?

I'd rather not take the time to know, a person who is so lame,
For in my book there's no skin color, I treat all the same.
Don't speak your ignorant, closed minded thoughts in my open ear,
All this discrimination and prejudice, I sure don't want to hear.

All people were suppose to be created equal, or so I've heard that said.
When we are born it's the same way, and when we die, we're dead.
We all bleed the same red blood and feel the pain of hurtful things,
They just don't understand the unfairness that their bias brings.

So I say unto twisted perception of a weak and thoughtless soul,
Do not judge another, for you'll be judged, unless that is your goal.
People are all unique each one with character and worth knowing.
They should be accepted for who they are and not the color showing!

Hey Rachel, I loved this poem so much. My skin tone is fair and I am hispanic and sometimes it is frustrating to walk into a room and feel like the only one that is alone. People don't seem to understand that it's not color or race that makes a person who they are, it's their heart. I really admire the way you piece your poems together. You have amazing talent and a wonderful perspective on life. You are a good role-model, I don't have to know you to say that either. Take care and as always, thank you for checking out my poems.
