Last Day

by Rachel RTVW   Jan 22, 2007

Your smile paints a picture, for everyone else to see,
On the outside it appears, you are as happy as can be.
The truth is you hide a secret, a depression deep within,
All the things you've witnessed and the places you have been.

People fighting hard for their lives, hanging on by a string.
When the battle's finally lost, the devastation it will bring.
People of all ages, learning cancer will cause their death,
Another has respiratory failure, when will be his last breath?
Alzheimer's causing intellectuals, to finally lose their minds,
So much death and disease, striking at people of all kinds.

We attempt to fight with fate or prolong the inevitable end,
Giving words to comfort someone without family or a friend.
Inside your mind there is an angel, who's giving you the heart,
So you'll be strong for them, when you're ready to fall apart.
Fighting for immunity to emotions, is what I always try,
On the outside strong and confident, while I let the inside cry.

What will be your own demise, a silent killer like hypertension?
Do you think a pound of cure is worth an ounce of prevention?
Will it be a massive heart attack, from plaque lined arteries?
Lupus, kidney failure or one of the other wretched diseases?

Time will be your greatest enemy, when it is your last day.
Who'd be your last visitors and what would you want to say?
Take advice from someone, who sees death knock at many doors,
Cherish every day as it was the last, cause it very well could be yours.
