Justin's Poem

by Mags   Jan 28, 2007

We sat in smoky silence
Round a fire on the ground
And listened to the woodland life
Which was the only sound

There was a sudden crashing
In the dark trees to our right
My brother came a screamin
"There's a ghost with us tonight"

While everyone was laughing
I thought I caught a glimpse
Of an angel speeding toward us
On a gust of wind

The cracking brush behind us
Brought a scary sight
Everyone was frightened
Because Austin was right

The phantom stood behind us
His red eyes gleamed like flames
And in the dim light of dusk
The inferno filled his skin

An unearthly voice filled the air
When the demon opened his mouth
And when he said he'd eat us all
None were left with any doubt

There was a conviction in his evil grin
And the way he chased the flames
It told me he would do anything
To make us meet these ends

He smacked his mighty jaws
And licked those blood red lips
Then snarling turned to me
And said that I'd go first

Then as he started toward me
There was a light above
I looked up at the heavens
And was surrounded by love

The angel seemed to glow
With the grace of good
He wore a robe of white
Fastened with a hood

The angel spread his mighty wings
And landed in between
The monster with his glaring eyes
And me the wretched being

The monster roared and stomped the ground
But the angel stood in place
He said that we were not for him
Our time was not today

With the love of heaven
The angel stroked the strings
Of a great golden harp
That was hidden behind his wings

The monster threw up his hands
To fend off the wonderful sight
But not even he
Could defeat the angel's might

He melted on the spot
He will forever lay
At the mercy of the birds
Who want to bathe and play

The angel turned back toward us
And in the dawning light
I saw a face familiar
That will never leave my sight

He was no ordinary angel
And I was quick to see
The guardian before us
Was a brother to me

He flashed a quick smile
And flapped those great wings
In an instant he was gone
To not be seen again

No matter what road I travel
I will not be afraid
He will always be there with me
To bring his might and rage

And in the gentle moments
I still see his face
And know that he is with me
Each and every day
( For my older brother Justin who was taken too soon. You will always be our angel.)
