Mama's boy he is no more

by Heather   Jan 31, 2007

Mama's boy he is no more,
As he leads his men into the core.
No more slouch as he walks,
No more stutter as he talks.
Pack on his back and a gun in his hands,
He leaves men and footprints in the sand.
Shells flying overhead,
someone calls out "another man dead".
At the days end he lies on his cot,
Not knowing what else to do he prays a lot .

Sirens wake him from his sleep,
with a spring in his step he jumps to his feat.
He pulls on his boots and ties them up tight,
In the blink of an eye he's in a run and out of sight.
Another sun rise and another sun set,
At no point does he pause to make any bets.
