Crying Tequila

by Lyndsay Kalyta   Feb 1, 2007

Sipping her Tequila,
It's ten o'clock and she's lost count
She cannot leave right now
But she can't stand the people all around

She chokes as she inhales a shot
Hoping the tequila will take away
The internal hurt she's captured by,
Yearning to be freed today

She's not sure how she got here
Or where she'll go when they kick her out
She's all alone in the big world
No one cares what she's all about

She asks the bartender for another round
As she holds on to stand up straight
She pounds the tequila back
As she slurs the words "I can't wait"

She can't wait for her friend
To save her from her pain,
Only Tequila can help her
So she orders a round, again

She drinks so she won't cry
And she doesn't cry 'cause then she'll lose
The one thing he didn't take
So she feels safe engulfed in booze

Each shot drowns a memory
Of what he did to her that day
No one would guess how much
An innocent victim could change

Shot after shot after shot
She begins to believe she feels okay
But really, she's completely numb inside
Can't put words together to say

She's hurting so badly she's fine
She's immune to not feeling alright
That's why she's slowly dying,
Crying, "Tequila, save me tonight"

This poem is a story of a girl who was a rape victim. It is not made up, it's real, I know this girl, and it hurts...hope you liked it.

Wow, this was really sad and unfortunate. It's good to know she has a friend like you to by her side.
