The shadow of a smile

by Nomad512   Feb 6, 2007

Late last night as it turned into morning
I stared at the ceiling as the sun was returning
as I sat in bed and whispered to the dark
God twisted the shadows twisting my heart

happiness wasn't a question that plagued me anymore
and distance wasn't a reason for me to be alone
working in the shadows of the moving lights
breeze moved your face into the hint of a smile

a smile broken briefly by the thought of my trip up north
and the stark realization that the engine won't turn over
standing out front, tossing stones at your window
the only hope I have is that maybe I can't go
