Childhood

by ♥Nikki♥   Mar 3, 2007

Childhood is the kingdom where ignorance is bliss.
Do you remember when things were simple?
When the only tough decisions were monkey bars or swings,
When the only fake people we knew were Barbie and Ken,
And when the people you loved only disappeared when you were playing hide and seek.

In childhood, you don't know the true meaning of loss.
You don't know that sometimes tomorrows never come.
There's not a care in the world,
And you have no choice but to believe that there really is a pot of gold at the end of each rainbow.

But experiences change you, take you out of that childhood.
Before long, everything isn't as simple as it was.
You learn.
That promises are easily broken, years fly by faster than you could ever see coming, and sometimes goodbyes really are forever.

Childhood is the kingdom where ignorance is bliss.
Where dolphins have wings,
And your imagination runs wild.
It knows no limits.
You have no fears.

But real life is full of sacrifice and struggle,
Concepts you only learn once you leave your childhood behind.
And we all know if we had a choice, we'd go back to that kingdom.
Because scraped knees are easier to fix than broken hearts.
