Great Pretender

by I Seem to be the Heartless   Mar 7, 2007

I had a dream last night.
I was on stage
Performing a one-man play.
I had so many roles to play,
So many lines to say
That I got them all confused.

You were in the audience,
Laughing at me.
It was meant to be drama
Not a comedy,
But still you laughed
Along with everyone else!

I tried to straighten out
What went wrong,
But it just made you laugh even more.
I tried to run,
To hide,
To stop the laughter,
But everything I did
Encouraged a bigger uproar.

I fell to my knees
And started to cry.
Suddenly the laughter stopped -
The hall was silent.
I looked up
And saw your face.
I glanced around
And noticed many other familiar faces,
All staring at me
Expectantly.

I looked around the stage
And saw the bed.
It was MY bed.
MY room.
Then it hit me:
This wasn't a play -
I was my LIFE!
Everyone was watching me,
Laughing at me...

I woke up in a cold-sweat,
And tried to shake the dream
Out of my head.
But as I opened my eyes,
I saw the same stage
As in my dream
And I realized,
My life is just an act.

Hmm...Interesting poem. Not sure if this is always relevant but as some of my poems are...this is more of a story told in a poetic format. Is that fine...i dont know, if you think it is then by all means it is fine. Perhaps a little more imagery to go with this, to show...not only tell.
