Drovers bend

by Heather Jay   Mar 29, 2007

The dark and misty night,
The sounds of the town in joy,
But I be here leadin' cattle down the lonely road,
The hooves of two hundred head along the hard black road,
They're tired and hungry, as so am I,
Hours without rest,
Without food and water,
The moon keeps us on track,
It's the sun of the night,
The long road seems never ending,
No where to go but straight,
Over bumps and water ways,
The cattle tread on, further and further down the road,
Only a few hours before our final destination,
But the cattle are tired and are getting lazy,
I feel their grief, as I am too, tired and lazy
Only a few meters, to go..
The cattle feel their freedom ahead....
A rush for the finish, for the fresh green grass,
It's finally over, the day of a drover.
