Anyway

by Heather   Mar 30, 2007

I laid awake for hours
awaiting my goodnight hug
I knew you weren't coming
but I waited anyway
I beg for one more story
another water glass too
I complained of a headache
and I wined about shadows
that were covering my walls
Momma finally tucked me in and turned out the light
in the darkness I could see the star through the window that night
I counted to one hundred
then I finally gave up
you weren't coming I knew that
But I waited anyway
