Another Drink

by Brianna Breakkdown   Apr 3, 2007

You weren't even old enough to have it,
And yet you still took a drink.
Then you ended up in an offroad pit;
Your life was over in a blink.

You sat down and got comfortable on the couch,
Let a few slip down your throat.
You started getting tired, your shoulders slouched,
And you stumbled across the room to get your coat.

The music was blasting and you couldn't see,
The strobe lights made every movement slow.
You screamed across the room, calling for me,
And I told you it was time to go.

You told me no, not yet,
It wasn't time to go.
Across the room people made a bet,
That you'd been sober by the time it'd snow.

I begged for you to follow me,
I tried dragging you to the car.
But you wouldn't budge, said, "Let me be."
And you wouldn't even get that far.

I worried about your ride back,
I didn't want you to end up killed.
I wish you would've picked up the slack,
Before your life was spilled.

It took hours before you were out the door,
And onto the front stair.
You were about to fall straight to the floor,
Sweat was drenched in your hair.

I knew you'd had too much to drink,
But I couldn't stop you from the swallow.
When you started to drive, I began to think,
That behind you I would follow.

In an instant the lights were gone,
And you were off the road.
The night was dying off into dawn,
As I saw your broken body when I slowed.

I wish you would have listened to me,
You should have stopped to think.
About how stupid it would be,
To have another drink.
