Torment

by robin milford   Apr 12, 2007

I hate playing the game
when everything stays the same
Pretending to care
sitting in my chair
Kids playing on the deck
being pains in the neck
It makes me ill
thinking of them getting their thrill
They give you rope
fill you with false hope
Here we are
wishing upon a star
They hope we'll hang
instead we'll set them up for a bang

"setting in my chair" (sic) ( = Sitting is misspelled. If I'm mistaken, my apologies.)

This piece can be interpreted in various ways. I really like the simplicity of this one, whereas having a deeper and profound meaning once you dig it. To me, this poem tells about a single-parent tormented by the problems and challenges along the road of single-parenthood. It can also show how youngsters today are "troublesome" to their parents.
    Nice work. Well done.
Keep on writing what you feel and like. all the best and take care.
