Contact

The planet that we walk upon,
And the time we call our own,
Is not the only life out there,
No, we are not alone.

For worlds around for far and wide,
Have life unlike we know,
And they all can reach other worlds,
To let their networks grow.

But Earth was one that no-one liked,
It made far too much noise,
With bombs and fire and gunfire shots,
And dying girls and boys.

They thought it best to leave us out,
So sans a shed of tear,
They cloaked the sounds towards poor Earth,
All but one fateful year.

In 1977 the planet of Zog,
Left one of their radios live,
Earth found it and it seemed to read,
6EQUJ5.

From that day on the Earth will try,
To find us. How they yearn!
Sadly, there's just one small fault,
They still refuse to learn.

For planets can communicate,
When peace is common land,
But war and poverty rages on,
Till then, the Earth is banned

From contact, lest they bring us down,
To ignorance and war,
ET came home the other day,
And cried from what he saw.

And so we wait impatiently
For Earth to pass it's test,
Till then, we'll wait and watch and laugh,
And be happy with the rest.

I'd like to think this poem uses the idea of extra-terrestrial life looking down on our planet to illustrate the follies of the world in a light children's song. Although I doubt you would consider reading this to your son or daughter, you may find some interest in having a read through.

As always, feedback is graciously appreciated!
