The Pit

by Broken Dreams   Apr 22, 2007

I reach for you but your hand I cannot reach
Our fingers brush as your tears hit my wrist
Mixing with the blood dripping slowly
Falling dripping into the air behind my handhold
My hand starts to slip as I grab for you
But still I cannot get a grip
I am falling and you try to save me
But I let go with my other hand
And fall into the pit underneath
You try to help me out
But I have fallen so far I am broken
You cannot climb out of the pit and carry me
You must go alone and leave me
Or we will both be in the pit
And I refuse to allow that
My last strength drags a knife
To save you I must make myself sacrificial
As the blood drips out I cry out in despair
For I see you lay down next to me
You will not leave me
You kept your word...
You were not like them I now know it is true
But now it is too late
You are stuck in the pit with me as life slips away
And I crawl into your hold
And together we look to the light
I am free, but you are forever trapped
Because you will never give up on me
I grab your hand and pull you up
We made it out of the pit
Because you believed in me
You did not give up
You held my hand and would not let go
You were my ladder
Together we emerge victorious
