Last dance

by doug frazier   May 4, 2007

Have you ever been lonely? I met him face to face
he finally caught up with me, but I gave him quite a chase.

Every time he'd get near me, I'd duck into a crowd
where there was laughing and dancing, the music was loud.

Grab the first hand, I came to, head for the floor,
have fun and be merry, like I'd been once before.

Line dance the two step, and that old promendade
swing your partner, square, circle, to the calls that they made.

And just when I thought everything was o.k.,
over the intercom the D.J. would say.

Everyone get your sweetheart, pull them real close
it was always then that lonely hurt me the most.

My arms were empty, no one could take your place
when I close my eyes, I still see your face.

So now I slow dance, though just with a broom,
I'm filled with emotion, as our song fills the room.

Swept up by the feelings that now tear me apart,
wondering why you left me with this hole in my heart.

Line dance the two step and that old promenade
swing your partner square, circle, you just went away.

I wrote this poem right after I got divored from the love of my life. For a while I was just lost and didn't have a since of self anymore. but that was in 1999, I've moved on and re-married. thanks for taking the time to read as many of my poems as you have. Your comments are always so kind. Hugs from Doug!
