I can't afford to be your friend

by This Soul of Mine   May 20, 2007

Designer clothing is your style
your obsession
your right
your reason

You'll probably drive a BMW
just because you can
changing the paint four times a year
so to match the season

You couldn't go a day
without something Starbucks
in your hand

I'll come to school one day
dressed in T-shirt and jeans
And you'll look down your expensive nose to me
because my outfit's skanky and bland

You bought me a costly birthday gift
and you should know it broke my heart
I don't want to be a friend who comes with a receipt
I doubt our friendship will mend

Speaking of birthdays
What about yours? Whatever I buy you wouldn't suit you.
Wal-Mart doesn't suit you.
I can't afford to be your friend.
