Life In Death

by Sar   Jun 20, 2007

Admidst the sunlit fields
And flowered vales afar
All is in distress
Like the falling of a star

Within the happy crowd
All are but depressed
And all the worldly pleasures
Can give our tears no rest

Lives are full of sadness
Hearts do naught but bleed
For every action in the world
Doest but our troubles feed

Alas! I finally realize
That none but this is true
You find joy in sorrow
Light in the darkness
And life in death.

I'm struggling to grasp the deeper meaning here, and also the use of "Doest". I've read this poem 3 times now and can't decide if it's about overcoming a devastated crop, or just the complexities of rural life. If the ambiguity is intended, then the 4th stanza leaves the 3rd redundant.
