A Show Of Lies

She wakes up every morning to the sunlight shining in. Her world is crumbling, even the sun seems so cold. She looks in the mirror and sees a face she doesn't recognize. She plasters on a smile and dresses her role. She covers her sorrow with makeup. She laughs at every stupid joke, choking back her tears. She smiles at all the right times, trying not to scream.

So many watch her show, and none of them see the truth. They're all so clueless, all of them believe her lies. She looks at them smiling, and it makes her sick. She cannot tell the truth, she cannot reveal this pain that she feels. There is a role that needs playing, a lie that needs telling.

Tested and used, hurt and abused. They push her to the ground just to see how fast she falls. They hurt her just to watch her cry. They rip off the crown so the beauty queen is no more. They leave her lying on the ground, bleeding her crimson regret, bleeding her crimson pain. Who will call her beautiful with her mascara bleeding? Who will want to watch her show with dirt on her knees?

She stands up, smiles, and holds her head up high. She uses every bit of energy to pretend that she's just fine. Alone in the dark she lowers her head slowly. The smile disappears, the truth shows. The beauty queen is no more. The curtain is closed on this show of lies. No one is there to see the tears that she cries. Her eyes close slowly, into the dream world she creeps. This world where the smile is not forced, this world where she does not cry, this world where the laughter is not just to choke back her tears. This world where she doesn't have to lie, she has no reason to fear.
