And The World Stood Still

by zoe stephens   Jul 7, 2007

And the world stood still
tonight.
Laughter danced
and tears rippled
through a sea
of faces.
Buses
mumbled and moaned,
grumbled and groaned
as they went about their business
of transporting
Life
from One Place to
The Next.
The streetlights preyed
on the
lonely,
licking their lips
as they found
another unsuspecting victim
in the shadows.
The drone of a plane’s engine overhead
became like a drum
in time with my own
heartbeat
growing ever faint.
And the world stood still.
