Forever

He promised her
they'd be together
all their life
and then forever

then kissed her lips
and held her close
and tells her that
he loves her the most

months go by
they're still the same
he pulls her outside
to dance in the rain

she kisses him
and forgets everything
they dance around
as he starts to sing

years go by
she smiles wide
he lays with her
side by side

hes still that guy
caring and sweet
later tonight
shes in for a treat

he takes her hand
gets down on one knee
she starts to cry
as he slips on the ring

eight months go by
regretting nothing they did
they're so happy
that they're having a kid

next thing you know
the babys here
on his cheek
a single tear

tons of memories
made each day
they loved each other
and everything was okay

two years later
she got sick
they rushed her to the hospital
and made it quick

he looked into the doctors face
and he knew it wasnt good
all of a sudden he burst into tears
he couldnt stop, and didnt think he would

"shes got cancer?
it cant be true
she doesnt deserve this
what did she do"

"im really sorry
were doing everything we can
i'd really like to stay and talk
but theres more tests that can be ran"

he took his wife by the hand
when the doctor waved at him
they went out into the hall
his attitude very grim

"im really sorry about this
but her condition has enhanced
we've tried everything we've thought of
but im sorry she has no chance"

"no!" he cried
"this isnt fair
your not even trying
you dont even care!"

the room shes in
gets colder and colder
she holds her child
asleep on her shoulder

he comes back in
tears stinging his eyes
she looks at him
and begins to cry

"is it really that bad"
she struggled to say
"im so sorry hun,
i didnt want it to be this way"

"i love you so much
but the doctor said
your getting much worse
and to stay here in bed"

"but dont worry hun
ill be back tomorrow"
he kissed he and left
his heart filled with sorrow

the next day he came back
with some flowers and a card
he stood in the hallway
looking was just too hard

"im really really sorry
it must cause alot of pain
it took over just last night
the cancer spread to her brain"

"it only takes a second
she fought hard and true
the last thing she said was
for me to tell you that she loved you"

he walked over to her bed
her face so icy cold
she looked so peaceful lying there
he took her hand to hold

"i love you so much,
but i hate that you had to go
i want you back so much
oh how i miss you so"

"thank you for all youve done
thank you for giving me a child
thank you for loving me
you made my life worth the while"

"do you remember what i promised you?
that we'd always be together?
i'll keep that promise till the day i die
always and forever"
