Loneliness

by Lauriel Chambers   Aug 7, 2007

Loneliness-
was a narrow, pitch black hallway
that had been painted with despair.
it was hard to find the exit
when no one even seemed to care.

Its walls felt like they were caving in,
and it seemed like there was no way out.
the chill of that empty corridor
seeked to saturate her mind with doubt.

She felt like something was missing.
an empty space lived in her heart.
loneliness left such corrosion,
and emptiness tore her apart.

Loneliness-
whisked her away as its next victim,
and she fell into its trap.
it burned a hole in her contentment,
and she slipped right through the gap.

She fell prisoner to the feeling
of never being good enough.
misery was her companion.
the lonely road she walked was rough.

Hopelessness swallowed her whole.
the days ahead of her looked grim.
it seemed like there was no escape,
until the day that she met him.

Happiness-
was such a foreign place to her.
she had to learn her way around.
and as he took her by the hand,
she was amazed by what she'd found.

Love filled in all the many gaps
that loneliness had left behind.
it eliminated the pain
that had inhabited her mind.

He gave her all that she needed,
the love that she had searched for.
he was all that she had wanted,
friendship, support, and much more.

Loneliness-
was a narrow, pitch black hallway,
but she is no longer inside.
love has lead her to the exit.
in happiness she will abide.
