I Promise You

by JustJacq   Aug 9, 2007

Empty house,
Silence rules,
It used to be filled with sounds of you.

Your absence is present, yet the memories are too.
They're rushing through my mind, like pictures, split in two.

Our goodbye was painful, definite and soon.
I did not expect time to be this cruel.

If I had known, would it have changed your fate?
Would my attempt have been successful?
Or had it already been too late?

Guilt consumes, for we could have guessed.
Shallow and simply minded,
That's how you could describe us best.

You belonged to our family,
Man's best friend.
Someone who would comfort, and make me laugh in the end.

Now your absence lingers, inside and out,
I'm sure, it will grow easier, I really have no doubt.

But until then I wish you could just annoy me one last time.
Instead of shoving you aside, Cursing in my mind and leaving you behind,
I will hug you very tight and promise you that I never more will be unkind.
-----------------------------------------

Dedicated to Simba.
You left this world far too soon little friend…
