From the diverse community that i have lived in for more than 15 years
I am from the block that's called the "Candy Cane Lane" in December and that has only 10 huge candy canes on the front lawn
I am from the get-togethers that we have every year at my uncle's house for thanksgiving
From the "Everyone is invited to our house for Christmas"
From the 12 grapes that my family and i eat at the count of 12 on New Year's Day
I am from the tree at my cousin's house that has 10 wood stairs that lead up the tree
And the swing that's not comfortable but that gets you very high in the air
From the orange and brown sand that was under our family sized pool that had been destroyed
From the imaginary Trampoline that i begged for years and years
I am from the bagged lunch that my mom made for me everyday
The plain bologna and cheese sandwich that i never finished
From the paper snowflakes that were made by cutting out triangles and squares
And that were later hung up on the ceiling to admire
I am from the comments that always irritated me
From "OMG, You have grown so much since the last time i saw you"
Or "I carried you when you were just a tiny little baby"
I am from the instant soups i made myself when i got home from school
Because what was made for dinner, I didn't like
I am from the Halloween parities at the rec center that lasted till nine
From the constant sleepovers my best friends and i had every weekend
From "Turn out the lights already" or "Stop Chit-Chatting, girls"
From having my mom do pigtails and fix me a pretty dress every year for picture day
I am from the sensitive and sentimental girls
The ones that cry simply for joy or for seeing someone else cry
From the girl who is always looked for when help is needed on homework
The girl that gets picked on for being smart
I am from the skinny girls that can fit into anything or anyplace
I am from these things and more
From Memories and Events that will always stay in my Heart
