Ode

by Bryan Berry   Aug 27, 2007

Sad souls of sadder minds and hollow hopes
what brings you to us this night?
we pray that you just put away your ropes
and please do stay away from the light

these words are meant to keep you standing
we'll brace your legs and lift your head
we hope we can bring you the understanding
that you are better off crippled than dead

greetings to you oh heart of no blood
who's been sucked dry by broken dreams
take some water, turn into a viridian bud
soon from your eyes, beauty gleams

be not silent you lips of song
the air in your lungs is not so stale
let out this note, proud and long
show this world you are not frail

this sad, sad soul wants joy for others
even though it has faded to gray
it has good wishes for its brothers
even as its body does decay

now let not these wishes be heard in vain
may these words on your heart remain
we hope you can see, simple and plain
that we can all end each other's pain
