Defeated by a shadow

I run through blinding darkness
fear tearing at my legs
creeping up my spine
i stumble along the rutted path
weighed down by the constant throb
of my conscience
my legs pump
searing pain
seeing stars oblivious to all else
i streak towards your silhouette
on the distant horizon
eternity stretches before me as a ruler
burning a deep scar on my soul
the cruel heavy air forces me to grazed knees
defeated before your shadow
