A Hand Held Out

by Indian Comma Bean   Sep 22, 2007

To hold out a hand,
to help someone up,
to put out the smile,
to show some one heart.

Have you the will,
to tell the truth,
or to expose your weakness,
to the ones you love?

Looking for comfort
in all the wrong places,
looking for love when
you feel so blind-

Where could it be...

Your peers untrusted,
but your mind so soft,
might the leaf fall from the tree,
you'd believe it an act of god.

Everyday the same old show,
you put on your smile,
you step by the toes,
today's play to be the best.

Slapped in the face,
thought such a disgrace,
when your illusion cast out,
your mask ripped from the back.

Knocked down to the ground,
so confused and distraught,
breaking down crying,
eyes crimson and wrought.

Have the world no mercy?

As a stranger walks by,
as the others ignore,
lifts you up and smiles...
He mutters the words,

Have no despair...
