Happy is an Understatement

by Naima   Sep 28, 2007

Joy and love
Waves and tides
Hearts beating and crashing against a cove
It's that thing called love

Heartache and pain
Earth's growth and beauty
Earthquakes destruction occurs and remains
In the minds of all that experienced it

Sadness and Depression
Riddled with teen angst
Crying on a Friday night
Hurting due to someone's pranks

I give a continual thanks for the things I've been subjected to
Happiness doesn't always mean contentment
Happiness isn't always love
I wish I didn't have to fathom any option above
But when life is handed to you
You have no choice but to take it
No longer can you hand it back
That's the main truth underlining the fiction from fact
Sometimes live has dealt me the worst
But I'm not allowed to hand it back

Happiness is overrated
Sadness in understated
Conundrums and paradox's arise
Breathing and seething mist in my eyes
I can't seem to find that damn finish line
But happiness is what we all aspire to achieve in our prime
It's not a short time goal.
This thing takes time
But it consumes me
Eating away at my mind

I'm happy to see lovers in love
Sharing anniversaries together
How they can withstand...
All that stormy weather
Is one of life's mysteries
I want to someday see
What other's see
In the eyes of someone else

I'm learning happiness isn't an easy feat
You have to hurt to smile
You have to burn to feel the heat
I turn to my mother
She turns me to the street
Happiness isn't so easy...

I guess It's a long road to happiness
Maybe I have to pay a cost
Maybe I need to experience great lost
Happiness is what I want most
Though It's a long time coming
I have a long way to go...
Happiness is starting to elude me....
