Summer's Song

by Marly   Sep 29, 2007

We watch as the sun stays up late
Sneaking away behind the hills past 9
The warm breeze through our hair
Todays memories rest in our minds
The sunsets colour sweep across the grass
Creating the perfect scene to see
The country landscape untouched like a picture
Just the perfect land with you and me
The birds say their good night calls
The horses gallop around their ground
Another beautiful day becomes night
The world goes to rest without a sound
The summer's broken out from the cold
The winter has been swept away by the sun
Time to stay out till daddy wants me home
Time to head out with friends for some fun
I leave my jacket at home on the couch
The warm weather calls for bare skin
I throw up my hat and smile with delight
For the summer season has come back in
There's a sudden smile when you walk outside
Ridin' without a saddle up the dusty red road
Giving a wave to each car that passes by
Seeing the hay trucks carrying in a heavy load
The children swimming out by the river
While the men out workin' for their money
The dogs always wag their tales in summer
And girls skin glows like the bee's honey
My hair cascades in the afternoon wind
My jeans are torn and my boots are dry
The colour of the skin on the old gum trees
Matches the hazel that I see in your eye
A kiss I share with you as we lie in the grass
I smile as you give me that look I love to see
I hope our kids find love in the summer
Just like the way you fell in love with me
Three months of perfection will come to an end
When the summer season starts to wind down
The sun might not be so bright like now
And not so many beautiful days will be around
But for now our lives blossom like wild flowers
As we share the moments of a gift from above
We're just two people, livin' in the summer
Who found the beauty of falling in love.
