My time

by Rebecca   Oct 6, 2007

I sit in a quiet room
With people either side
Writing furiously
On an exam

I listen to the sounds
The scratching of pens on paper
I try to concentrate
But find myself straying

I get lost in my thoughts
People turn the pages
But mine stays the same
I’m left behind once again

I pull myself into the room
And begin the task
That lies in waiting
And could decide my future

I get lost in the questions
I’m writing furiously
And thinking at the same time
I’m catching up like I always do

I have time left
So I sit and wait
For those few words
That will end this time

People stand up
And I do to
I walk with everyone else
Knowing it could be the last

People go their separate ways
And I know I will to
But not yet
My time here is not yet finished

I do not say goodbye
As I know I will return
Unlike many others
I will come back
This place holds many memories
And will hold many more
My time in this place continues
And I relax
Into the life I will lead
Here in the place that I have grown up

Someday I will leave
And will not return
I will leave people behind
But there is some
That will never leave my side

My time goes on
But I know it will come to an end
Just like so many others
But I will never forget this place
And I will never leave
The one that has always been there

I will never leave
The one that has always been there
For him I will always be here
In the place I have grown up
