SUMMER JOB; WHAT AN ADVENTURE

by Marie Pier   Oct 10, 2007

Summer job, what an adventure;
History of forests protection against fires,
A museum in a so little town,
A so dramatic boss,
Two so hardly working colleague,
And one indispensable partner.
Guiding visitors was my assignment.
Knowing about the subject, my objective.
Assisting the office was also one of my attributions.
Learning about desk work, what a challenge.
Opening of the museum, long day to come,
Closing it, what a reassurance.
Five days a week,
No free weekends at all.
A so big liberation when Monday came.
Wednesday, back to work;
Generally, the most busy day of the week,
The biggest amount of visitors, so unexpected.
Then, some days could be so busy,
But others, we saw no one.
Those ones, so long,
Nothing to do,
Converse with my partner, distracting,
But after a few weeks, nothing much was left to say.
Reading of course, a good pastime,
But putting a lot to sleep.
Sleeping, do not even think about it.
Even if you are alone,
Imagine if some visitors arrived,
You're done.
So I waited, listened carefully.
Any noises could be a great sign,
Downstairs, the door.
Hoping for a visitor,
But most of the time,
Negative was our answer.
Eight weeks, such a long journey.
Finally, August 19th arrived,
The last day of this adventure.
Nine o'clock, last museum's opening.
Between those nine and five, visitors! Yeah!
Time passed by so much faster.
Four forty-five, closing the cashier, starting to close the museum.
Five o'clock, locking the door!
Done, the job was done,
I was then, free!
