The Lily's Promise

by Phantasmagoria   Nov 22, 2007

Note: Just so you understand, the two human personalities are just one person.

Recollect fills your mind
you want to give up
but you don't know why
so you keep on dreaming
more like a nightmare now
every time you open your eyes
susceptible to the world around you:
Wouldn't you like to be that pure?
You travel to the graveyard
and rest among the headstones
Somehow,
this feels more like home to you
(this desolate, decaying grayland)
it feels more like home to you
than 'home' ever has.
But, you're afraid of dying.
No, I'm afraid of death,
I tremble at the thought
of what I don't already know.
Holding the peaceful lily
close to my still beating heart
wondering if the flower can feel
the blood pumping life in my veins.
You know we're both alive,
but the lily's petals are darkening
and in a few days,
it will have all but eroded
a delicate reminder
of what lies ahead.
We'll bury it together
our sentimental corpse
and wait for the moment
that we'll have to say goodbye.
