By this time tomorrow

by resisting reason   Dec 13, 2007

Surrounded by razor blades and empty shells
With a soundtrack of screams and ringing church bells
Bodies lie on either side
Gun shot wounds to the head
By this time tomorrow
I will be dead
And I tread a thin line
Between this sanity and insanity that I call mine
So as I walk this line
Down the street
I hear my conscience speak
"take your blade"
"find the kids"
"in the shade"
"slit their wrists"
And as the children walk by
The shadows in which I hide
I stand ready
My hand is steady
And as the moment arrives
For me to take their lives
I take a deep breath
And close my eyes
And see what I must do
A flash of red
Bloody pools
Then I walk out of the shadows
Head down and calm
Ask one of the kids to show me their palms
And through the screams and cries and tears
I can still hear the church bells in my ears
Those sweet chimes of faith
Bring a smile to my face
As I stand here
In the middle of the road
Completely alone
Bodies on either side
I put out my hand
And with my blade
Trace my vein
And as it starts to flow
I know
That I was right
By this time tomorrow
I will be dead
