The simple statement (short story)

by Miranda   Dec 14, 2007

She's sitting on the ground.
The tears are slowly rolling down her damp cheek.
The weather is matching her mood perfectly.
Raining, the wind rushing though her hair.
She feels she needs to be here,
but she doesn't know why.
Then she See's him.
She would cry harder
but she can't manage the tears.
He walks up to her
and asks what's wrong.
She just stares at him.
He can't stand that mournful expression.
He asks her again.
This time she stands and starts to walk away.
He just stares at her.
Then he grabs her arm.
She turns around fast,shocked.
They both felt the heat of that simple touch.
He gently whispers.
She can barely hear it with the rain,
But it seems to echo in her mind.
"Tell me,Allissa.Tell me."
She looks at the ground
and at his face again.
"How can I talk to a stranger?"
He stares at her again,
Confusion on his face.
"But,Allissa,I'm your best friend.
Of coarse I know you."
"No,you don't"
Again,confusion crosses his face.
"Why do you say that?"
A fresh flow of tears
blends with the rain.
"YOU DON'T KNOW!"
That simple statement.
That simple look of pain.
The simple sound of sneakers on wet pavement.
And he understood.
After all the years he understood.
But he couldn't tell her.
She was gone.
The next morning,he was crying.
He sat in the same spot as she did.
Only today,it was sunny.
And the clouds looked like heaven itself
was peeking though them.
He looked at the crumpled paper,
for the thousandth time.
Blood stained and amazingly red,
It was another simple statement.

"Tell him I loved him."

Wow, another beautiful story you told. This one was so different from the one I read before but it was still amazing. You are talented both in writing about saddness and about love.

    "A fresh flow of tears
    blends with the rain."
^my fave lines, they were beautiful.

Well done, I truly enjoyed reading your work. *5/5*
