In Mid-June...To Tell You We Belong

by Soulful Ensemble   Dec 28, 2007

I climbed the highest mountain all day long,
At the top I took a deep breath and sang you a song.
Everybody should know we're lovers--tell me if I'm wrong,
But when I look into your eyes I can see that we belong.

So I climbed down all through the night, whistling a tune,
Looking for you to bring the gods of noon
So that the bright day's light would cast upon the dunes,
And make my path appear, radiating, in the month of June.

Didn't we meet that month, in the summer of last year?
I miss the times we spent together-- I miss you near.
But I'm still around baby, climbing all day long,
Just to let you know: I think we belong.

And In the morning when the moon is gone,
The sun is coming out of hiding at the break of dawn.
You're on my mind as I walk and yawn,
Trying to wake up to tell you we belong.

To tell you we belong, I'd walk all day long again,
Just so you could hear my words, shouted from the plains.
If they were to reach you I'd be a happy man,
I'd fall to the ground with exhaustion and come up with a new plan,
To get you even closer to me-- my only adoring fan.

And if you didn't hear my song,
Well, I thought of that all along.
I'd have to walk hard and long,
To find you and tell you we belong.

You know I miss your beautiful smile,
Telling all the world life is worthwhile.
And your voice I hear from miles,
Saying, " why don't you come out for a while?"

Well I'll come out baby, and I won't be hostile,
I'll look into your eyes and kiss you, and never say goodbye.
You know you're very versatile,
And impress me with everything you imply.
When you kiss my face; I remember July,
And I wonder if you remember why?

I'd take a walk through thorns and vines;
Foggy forests, dead ends, and darkened mines.
I would walk at the other side of the lines;
Being kind to everyone, and missing all the signs,
Just to be with you, baby, in our love Divine.

If I ever was to reach you I'd whisper in your ear,
That my road was harsh and long, but worth being here.
I'd tell you, "I'm a bit tired, dear",
"I was walking for a year"
"Just to find out you kiss me with no fear,"
"And taste sweet against my face of tears."

And you would say, " don't cry-- just cheer"
"You're looking at me here",
"Your voyage was long but try to think clear,"
"You came for love and love is very near."

I would know you're right and smile, my dear,
Thanking you for proving me wrong.
"You're always right you know?-- and very sincere"
"Thats why I came here to tell you we belong."

"you didn't have to come baby," you'd say,
"I already knew we wouldn't stray."
And I'd say, " well thats OK,"
"Now that I'm here please let me stay,"
Or come back with me-- its a new day."

"I walked this long to tell you we belong,"
"Across the mountains, I sang you a song,"
"Whether you heard or not, I stayed strong,"
"My heart is warm now, as it should have been all along."
"And on my way I did slip and fall in dong,"
But I washed myself clean, and there's nothing strong"
"That could force me to fall and admit that I was wrong"
"For walking through the deserts and the storms"
"...To tell you we belong."
And you'd say, " I know. Sing me your song."

I'd laugh and smile, and say " hold on",
As I get up from the dawn.
I'd say, "You look lovely, hon"
"Rising with me-- we are the sun,"
"And all of our sadness is now undone."
