In The Eyes of the Beholder

by Jordan   Jan 2, 2008

Silence filled the room knowing we were near, not a single peep did we hear.
They have me full of fear thinking they're all here for the same thing.
As I search up and down, I look all around.
Why are they here? What do they want? Why are they in the way?
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder they say,
Someone tell me why it has to be this way?
Beauty is something deep, something no one will ever keep.
For the slightest mistake it is gone, Beauty is something that's rarely known.
A thing so beautiful, so wonderful, but yet mistaken.
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder they say,
Sometimes beauty can be taken the wrong way.
What is beauty you may ask? Beauty is something that doesn't last.
For the slightest action takes it away because beauty is such a huge mistake.
They all watch close as I'm running around, they all wonder if I'll make a sound.
"Beauty?" The man is the back asked. "Beauty is a thing that'll never last"
The woman in the green stood up and said "What is life if we're all mislead!?"
The man in the front rose and raised his hands "Beauty is something you none understand...
A thing so beautiful, so wonderful, but mistaken..Something that none of you has probably taken..
A thing so deep and pure, the sweetest scent in the air, better than the scent of a womans hair.."
The silence broke, the crowd a craze, everyone glaring, the man; a blaze.

Good message; it is true beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
In my opinion though, a poet needs to try to convey his or her message without directly saying it, that is unless you find it best to say it directly. If the message is said directly then I think adjectives, adverbs, and basically images should be used to add more depth and mystery to it.
Just telling you my opinion, I'm not one of those highly ranked poets.
