Standing by the front door

by lost in the words   Jan 2, 2008

Standing by the front door
Watching your car drive away
Why are you leaving me mommy
Promise me, you will be back some day

You promised you would never leave
The first time he laid hands on you
Said we were in this together
And that we would make it through

But it looks like you forgot about me
And you didn't care when you drove away
Why are doing this mommy?
Why did you leave me here astray?

He beats me all the time now
Many bruises lay on my skin
And I wonder why this is happening
Is God punishing me for my sins?

I want you to come rescue me
From the powerful hands that strike
Why won't you come back for me?
Am I not good enough for you to like

Who would beat their own child and wife?
And not have any regrets on doing so?
He walks around as if i'mnothing to him
So why can't he just let me go?

Wow.. I haven't seen a poem this good in a long time. The title alone captured my attention, but my goodness, the poem itself captured my heart. I cannot relate to this personally, but I'm sure many teenagers out there will be able to. It was a painfully wonderful piece, dear. Keep it up. 5/5 <3 <3 <3
