I fell in love in the City

by Samantha lynn   Jan 3, 2008

(also known as "On Broadway" if you're interested)

there's a brief moment
right before the sunsets
behind the bright city lights
that I see you standing there
with a glowing smile and laughing eyes.
On the corner were we literally,
and metaphorically, crossed the road
from friends to lovers in a heartbeat
and skidding break lights.

There are lingering, fingertip feelings,
that brush my heart on the bursting street
outside of your favorite store.
Memories of watching three men
playing hide and seek like grown lost boys
until their Wendy called them back to reality
only to get drawn into the festivities.

There was a fleeting instance,
that I almost thought, I forgot it.
The emerald of your eyes
the echo of your laugh
the gentleness of your hands
wrapping tight and protective around mine.

I left a single smiling daisy,
standing there to remember you.
And to remember that I found my first love
right there, on Broadway.
