Dementor Attack

by Common Sense   Jan 4, 2008

Twisting and turning
Spindly black
like spider legs dancing
Dementor attack

We're thrown and smashed
against burnt grass
Our hopes are gone
Our fears won't pass

Ice crystallizes upon rooftop, windowsill
Thirty below zero
Freezing's overkill
Cracking, staining, sharp like acid
Will they leave
if we seem placid?

The cold shatters glass,
bodies drop to the floor
The specters' rasping drones
threaten us furthermore

They swing through the air
Appearing here and there
Swooping closer, closer
Causing more despair

Death is the rattling in your house at night
Frozen fingers clasping; and holding tight
Still faces,
hollow as bone
Death is when you're all alone

They came in ones
No twos
No threes
They swarm around
like hungry bees

They shift nearer,
descending their height
We're going to die
without a fight

Could this all be
just for pretend?
It must be real -
we're facing our end

Now they've arrived
whisking us away
At midnight
They silence our fray

Desperate and screaming
A chill down my spine
If I'm going to die
that sure was a sign

A blinding silver light
flashes 'cross the scene
too fast to follow
It's here to intervene

The Dementors shrill away
Their choking presence gone
It seems we're safe for now
At least it's almost dawn

The frigid air is warming now
Ice thawing from the town
No more gray and black
Everything's glistening green and brown

So followed from
that devastating night
hung brilliant, silver lanterns
So that if we may catch a fright
they'll protect us from our darkest concerns
