What You Said

Remember when we started this
And you said you wanted more?
I believed every word,
Right in my heart's core.

You continued to say
That all you wanted was me.
That I was what all the others
Could never ever be.

I was 'all you ever wanted in a woman',
Or so you always said.
You liked the way
I let you be in charge in bed.

But yet I never got to see you -
There was always some excuse.
I started to feel betrayed,
Like I was being used.

Then came the day you said
You wanted to settle down with me.
I nearly fell off my chair -
It was just so hard to believe.

But still I fell for it,
Believing all your lies.
I guess I'm the one to blame
For the tears falling from my eyes.

I really wish I could get
You and your voice out of my head.
How I was I supposed to know
That you never meant what you said?

You know how much
Words mean to me,
Yet you played with my emotions
And led me to believe.

But it was what you said!
It had to be true.
All I wanted was to believe
That I was good enough for you!
