She Has That Kind of a Face

by Corinne   Jan 9, 2008

How real
Is the pseudo-science
Physiognomy?

I ask because
There is a young woman
I see every morning
Waiting for a different bus than I
And she has what can only be described as
A "bad face"

You've noticed them yourself
No doubt
On true crime tv shows
The eyes that suggest
A twisting of the soul
The mouth that speaks
Only ugly words

She has that kind of face

Mind you, I'm not saying
Sheâ??s a sociopath
Though she may well be

She could just have been
The cruelly taunting teenager
Who made other girls lives
A misery

She, with the narrowed eyes
That probably danced with glee
The curled lip
That smiled a secret gaiety
A stony heart
No sentiment could touch

Yes
She has that kind of face

Very cool poem, Corinne. Your "people watching" poems are simply the best. My kind of poem, no doubt. Very real and descriptive and just perfecto. I adore it! ;o)

I think it's different. A well described observation. I enjoy this kind of work.

I enjoy your critique of an individual simply from observing them. It made for a very unique piece. I think it's interesting how we can look at someone and they can remind us of someone or something else, kind of how you related her to a taunting bully. Nice job!

People watching, one of my favorite past times! Interesting poem with a slightly different flavor.
