My Pen Is The Key To My Heart (Free Verse)

by Ashleigh Skye   Jan 10, 2008

Well it seems that things have yet again changed,
While once it was all about reading peoples poems and expressing myself at the same time.
Now however
I can't bring myself to read anyone's work but my own.
Does this make me a hypocrite?
Asking for peoples advice on my work,
When in actuality I couldn't care less,
For their words wont change how I feel.
Their words wont transform me.
Can't harm me.
Wont save me.
Wont protect me.
And for some reason I'm still craving,
But what I ask.
No one could possibly know
For I myself am confused.
The things that once helped me grow the most
Have now become the tools I'm destined to avoid.
Even if it means erasing everything,
Everything that meant the world to me,
At one point in my life.
Now in my quiet desperation,
I'm asking for answers
From the people that can view my soul,
Without looking through the hazy glass.
Because unlike the people around me,
They have no reason to lie.

*Free Verse: Free Verse is an irregular form of poetry in which the content free of traditional rules of versification, (freedom from fixed meter or rhyme).
In moving from line to line, the poet's main consideration is where to insert line breaks. Some ways of doing this include breaking the line where there is a natural pause or at a point of suspense for the reader*

Its slighty conceited, but still a bit poetic
