But I Loved You Then

by CrossMyHeartAndHopeToDie   Jan 15, 2008

Do you remember when I was four?
And I saw you at the candy store
Walked in, and as I pushed the door
You pushed me back, made my bottom sore
Try hard you did to ignore
How much I loved and adored
You
But I loved you then

How about when I was nine?
Pretty and witty in my prime
Always wanted you for mine
Granted my wish on valentine!
Broke my heart for Caroline
How I cried, felt like I died
Inside
But I loved you then

On the eve of my sweet sixteen
God! I felt just like a queen
We've been together since fourteen
I've known sometimes you'd get mean
But nothing was more obscene
Than seeing you make out with Colleen
That moment in time all my dreams
Had died
But I loved you then

How long exactly do you expect
For all this humiliation and disrespect
To parade around my heart so wrecked
However I will not forget
And promise to always recollect
The laughs and kisses I've hhave the pleasure, yet
The pain
But I loved you then
