Standing Back

by Pixxie Rebel   Jan 18, 2008

Today the world cried,
For a great man had died.
Thousands flocked to give support
And offer their condolences.
A public funeral, was held for all,
So people could say goodbye.
But behind it all stood a little boy,
Who no one really saw.
At the end of the service;
He stood up straight,
Walking right up to the coffin.
He stood before it while the others left,
And when the room had emptied,
Pulled from his pocket, a piece of paper,
And from it, began to read;
"You were so famous,
You were so grand,
You were so loved by all.
Most of all though,
You are my Dad,
That's how I'll always remember you.

The other day when I was at school,
All the kids were bragging,
They told stories of how great their dads are,
And how they will always love them.
Suddenly, all eyes were on me,
Waiting for my story.
But I didn't have a long, long tale to tell,
All I had was this:
'My Dad's a warrior,
He fights for us all.
Making sure that we're always safe.
And even though he's not here right now,
I know he's looking out for me.'
I love you Daddy,
And I always will,
So I guess now it's my turn to look out for you."

Today the world cried,
For a great man had died,
But behind it all,
Stood a little boy,
Who just wished to say 'Cya mate' to his dad.
