Caring Carnival 7-6-04

by Phil Laws   Jan 19, 2008

I leave the carnival alone that we toured through together
I feel that when it must move on these summer nights go dimmer
Then I recall long walks like this when you brightened my hope
And never had to share a kiss to lend me strength to cope
I'm sure when days grow long again I'll see those lights get nearer
And go with somebody else then, reveling in new pleasure
And if I see you then outside, that you would not contend
I'm sure you'd face my love with pride and treat her as a friend
Or if I see you in awhile enraptured with someone new
I hope I can enjoy your smile, as any true friend would do
And learn to like the one you love, to keep their place secure
And keep your pleasure well thought of, to hope it will endure
But if you ever leave alone fearing darkness to come
I hope that I can light the road and ease your troubles some
